'Neo Yukio' Your guess is as good as mine!?!

So when I first read the Jayden and Willow Smith will be voicing some of the characters in a new NetFlix Anime production, my instinct was to roll my eyes.. But then I spot all the black anime characters in this series and I immediately sit up and take notice..

Representation matters, and it's about time we saw more black characters in this style, cos there are hella Bleeky Anime lovers out there dying for some more cosplay characters to pay tribute to.

And I gotta say, from the trailer alone I'm intrigued, certainly enough to allow it my three episode watch rule. It's quite a trailer too, a mush mash of styles that is a bit confusing, but there's something about it I can't quite put my finger on that's drawing me in! I guess I'll have to watch it to try and work it out!?

Enter 'Neo Yokio' launching Friday 22nd Sept

The times they are a changing - HBO & Nnedi Okorafor

Do you feel like the tides of Black media are changing? In that money is talking and the success of shows like; 'Dear White People', 'Blackish', 'Chewing Gum', 'Awkward Black Girl'; and more recently 'Timewasters' on  ITV2 to name a few, is making the execs sit up and take notice? Because I feel like there is a definite shifting, albeit a gentle lilting of the sand rather than a full on landslide, but Black writers and stories are getting more of a shout out and not in the boring tired stereotypes of criminal gangs and deprivation kind way?

What got me thinking about this was the announcement of more good news in the pipeline, in that Nendi Okorafor is allegedly in talks with HBO to make a TV adaptation of “Who fears death” - more reasons I need to move to America, or find a friend with a HBO subscription! On top of that I've really gotta catch up with this ladies work, maybe this new series will help!?
