ASUNDA ON HBO

A HBO adaption of comic book series "Asunda" looks to be heading our way soon, focusing on the character created by Amandla Stenberg "Niobe". In the HBO adaptation we find Niobe D

destined to join together her two communities against a looming ancient threat. Niobe already features in her own arc of the Asunda series 'Niobe: She is life' and 'Niobe: She is death'. You can read more about the Tolkien inspired world of Asunda and learn it's history before the TV adaptation via the Stranger Comics website.

With a string of Afrofuturist adaptations in the pipeline, Octavia Butlers 'Wild Seed' and Nnedi Okorafor's 'Who fears death' HBO seems to be really spoiling us with TV from some great black sci-fi and fantasy novelists!

Africanfuturism Productions INC

One of my favourite writers of the last ten years is about to create a TV Production company with a focus on Afrofuturist stories!

Nnedi Okorafor announced the company name via Twitter "Africanfuturism Productions inc" to much excitement and holding of breathe!! It seems that film is not where our lady of the 'Obelisk Gate', is heading at the moment stating "TV series are my focus right now, film is too restrictive"

With a TV adaptation of her 2011 novella "Who fears death" set to air on HBO, this looks to be only the beginning of some exciting and representative African inspired sci-fi TV for our viewing pleasure.

Mama K's Team 4

Winner of Animation studio 'Trigger Story Lab's 2015 pan-African talent search, Zambian writer Malenga Mulendema, will be bringing her animated superhero series to Netflix's growing African content.

The series will follow four teenage girls who are hired by a retired secret agent to save the world and is set in the futurist version of Lusaka, Zambia. Titled 'Mama K's Team 4' - Mulendema said “In creating a superhero show set in Lusaka, I hope to introduce the world to four strong African girls who save the day in their own fun and crazy way. Most importantly, I want to illustrate that anyone from anywhere can be a superhero."

No set release date so far, but watch this space for updates.

The series is designed by the Cameroonian artist Malcolm Wope.
