'The Dark Crystal' Prequel - Get your trauma box ready!
Remember the Dark Crystal, Jim Hensons dark puppet fantasy released in the 80's? No? It may be because you placed it in your internal trauma box, where all things that you probably shouldn't have been exposed to at the age of 8 go… but the 80's was a special time, where drug references and terrifying characters were common place in children's TV - ah god bless the 80's.
All I can remember from 'The Dark Crystal' film is some poor puppet being strapped into what looked a lot like an electric chair and having the life force sucked out of him - nice! Add in some demonic looking vulture like creatures and you have a sure fire recipe for nightmares and years of therapy. Having said that though, I do remember it being gripping, original and a great film! So imagine my pleasure when I discover that there will be a series coming to NETFLIX which is set to be a prequel to the film, sounds intriguing right!? |
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will apparently be 10 episodes long and take place several decades before the events in the film. Until then, enjoy the trailer…

'Trill League' - DC Just got HOOD!
What if your favourite superhero characters weren't from galaxies far far away, but from the hood? That's the question Anthony Piper had swimming around in his head before he graced us with his creation, 'Trill Robin' the first character in his spoof of our most beloved DC characters!
What started off as a bit of fun for Piper, quickly went viral, to the point where there's a possibility his concept may be made into a cartoon series on Adult Swim? Some say he's trolling DC but I don't buy that, he's putting in A LOT of effort to troll DC if that’s really what he's doing, and in my experience, trolls aren't that dedicated and too damn lazy to troll anyone this epically!! Anyway, here's hoping that we see the cartoon series soon, in the meantime, we'll just have to keep enjoying the comic! The first issue of the digital series is available here http://www.trillleague.com/ Or just enjoy perusing the his Facebook page where you can view 'Trill league' content to your hearts content! https://www.facebook.com/TrillLeagueComics/ |
'InHumans' - coming to a TV near you!
So I gotta admit, my knowledge of the 'InHumans' is limited to what I've discovered reading 'Ms Marvel' and 'Moongirl & Devil Dinosaur', which isn't much, something about Kree DNA that seems to manifest itself at the most inconvenient times, and I'll stop there before I embarrass myself even further!!
And the reception of this trailer has not been great either, it was a bit confusing to say the least, and lacking in oomph! but I am intrigued, simply because of this guy, Iwan Rheon, who if you were lucky enough to catch 'Misfits' on Channel 4 a few years back, you'll know what a great actor he is and why this makes it a much more interesting project for me than it otherwise would. Having been severely disappointed by Marvel's 'Agents of Shield' - is it just me but how did they make this show is so dam dry!! These guys are frickin superhuman with some amazing powers, yet the dialogue comes across like a bad episode of Dawsons Creek, dry dry dry! I don't know how else to express myself better than that, it's so lack lustre that the show is practically horizontal and yet it should be incredibly exciting and a great way to unpack characters that you may have only fleetingly come across on your comic book travels! Alas, it was not to be, hence why peeps are not too excited by the 'InHumans' trailer... Critique seems to centre around the portrayal of characters that should dominate with their presence, yet are reduced to your average Jo, namely Medusa, who's hair is like a frickin superhero on its own, but somehow this awesome power and her awesome character are diminished, she's supposed to be a super powerful baddass, I wasn't getting that at all…. Ho hum, anyway, I'll give it a chance when it finally hits our screens, but I'm preparing to be disappointed. |
