2017: DYSTOPIAN FUTURE AWAITS?

Ah, 2016 is finally over! We can sit back relax and hope to God 2016 was the bottom - we can’t possibly sink any lower can we? (Megyn Kelly's on the cover of Vanity Fair, Trump's inauguration…) ok, I'm just going to skip over a few things and concentrate on the delights we have to look forward to in 2017.

2016 was definitely the year of the Black Superhero, mostly male, ahem, but Blackity Black Black Black nonetheless and I for one lapped it up like a supersized hero lemonade. I'm still trying to decide what 2017's defining characteristic is going to be, I'm hoping it's not super f**kery, but while I'm working that out, there's going to be a few gems to titillate us along the way!

So here are my top Bleeky things to look out for in 2017!

With a healthy dose of imagination, a cult following and a title longer than an x-factor finalists career, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets hits cinema's in July.

"Basquiat: Boom for Real" -Need I say more? Get yourself to The Barbican in September, where they will be displaying the work of one of my absolute favourite artists, Jean-Michel Basquiat. It will be the UK's first large-scale exhibition of his work and I cannot wait!

Promising even more cringeworthy and outrageous behaviour, Season 2 of Michaela Coel's brilliant comedy, Chewing gum, is well overdue! E4 began filming in July 2016 and the second chapter will be on your screens in January! Yay!

Storming in at number one with a Black power soundtrack, a Black Lives Matter t-shirt and a big middle finger for the president-elect, "I am not your Negro" has its US nationwide release this February.
