More from 'Get Out' Director Jordan Peele
Couldn't get enough of the racially charged horror that was 'Get Out'? Well you're in for a treat as Hollywood and the money men have taken notice, with Universal pictures apparently commissioning more works like 'Get Out'!
Not only is there set to be another film in the pipeline, but Jordan Peele will also be the executive producer for a HBO Drama Series based on a Matt Ruff novel 'Lovecraft'. With the setting of 'Lovecraft' taking place during a 1950s road trip through the Jim Crow South - I'm sure we can guess how that turns out! I'm not usually a fan of the Horror genre, my insides are yellow, but 'Get Out' was an entirely different kind of horror, the horror of real life racism and micro-aggressions that many of us face on a daily basis, taken to a fantastical but sadly not the most unrealistic end. |
No word yet on when we might see these offerings to our worst fears made real, but I'll keep you posted!

HBO and Watchmen!
What is happening at HBO, there's some serious shows coming outta this channel at the moment!! I almost want to move to America!!
With Issa Rae's 'Insecure' at the helm, more planned from 'Get Out' Director Jordan Peele, you'd think that was enough, but no, they are talking about making a 'Watchmen' series!!! Yes a whole series!! I don't know about you, but I was left wanting more after the film and then nothing happened! I remember thinking "this is what a superhero movie is supposed to be like" and then it was over and we were left with bad X-Men movies, a series of lacklustre Spiderman reboots, and several Batman movies…. No confirmed details yet, but it seems the project is being picked up again, so we may see it on our screens soon! |
Masaaki Yuasa's is back with his adaptation of 'The Night is Short Walk on Girl' (Yoru wa Mijikashi Arukeyo Otome)
Having just read the Timeout review for Masaaki Yuasa's adaptation of Tomihiko Morimi’s bestselling book 'The Night is Short Walk on Girl', quite frankly they can go suck it.
It feels as though they know very little of Masaaki Yuasa's work, knocking out a poor review, relying on a lazy critique of 'normalising stalking behaviour' as a way to dismiss this work. Now having seen it, it makes me wonder about the mind of the reviewer that made them think the protagonist is being stalked?! Who hasn't made it their business to be in the same place as their work crush on occasion? Honestly hardly stalking! I took a friend for a second opinion, they couldn't fathom it either and in fact described the film as 'delightful' which I think sums it up nicely! The review also mentioned 'Adventure time' and 'Crayon Shin Chan' as examples of Masaaki's work; while both those shows are great, are not representative of his style and talent - think 'Mind Game', 'Ping Pong' the Animation as well as 'Tatami Galaxy', and then you'll understand why I was so excited to see this anime. While Japan Culture still has a way to go with its gender relations, they are not blind to it either and I think the author may have missed the often subtle critique that will appear in Masaaki's work, the female protagonist in this work, is not shown loving what is happening to her, like some sort of animated Stockholm syndrome. |

'The night is short walk on girl', while not being a direct sequel to 'Tatami Galaxy' I think many will find it hard not to notice the similarities in the animation and story telling style. Viewers should think of it more like a parallel story, one occurring in the same universe at 'Tatami Galaxy' but not directly related to it, having said that, there are a couple of Easter eggs in there for Tatami fans!
